Fundamentals of Statistical Energy Analysis

Carl Hopkins(University of Liverpool, UK)

Abstract: This lecture reviews the underlying principles in Statistical Energy Analysis beginning with discussion of the thermal analogy, the origins of SEA and the main assumptions inherent to the approach. This leads onto the definition of subsystems and interpretation of subsystem response for practical situations. In terms of SEA solutions, both Matrix SEA and Path Analysis SEA are reviewed with examples that demonstrate their usefulness in solving engineering problems concerning sound and vibration transmission in buildings.
