Real-scale measurements of the scattering coefficient

Acoustic diffusion is a major physical phenomenon which influences the sound quality of performance halls. The ISO 17497-1 standard provides a measurement method for the scattering coefficient. The measurement equipment for the random-incidence scattering coefficient measurements have been installed in a reverberant chamber at CSTB.

Different diffusers such as Sinus-shape, MLS, QRD or Semi-spherical have been tested. The results will be presented and will be compared with the results from other laboratories.

The encountered difficulties, especially border effects, and their solutions will be presented.
